For the first time, the ever-popular West Cape May Lima Bean Festival will expand. In addition to having vendors, food, and entertainment in Wilbraham Park, vendors will also line the street on Myrtle Ave. for the Oct. 11 event from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Rain date is Oct. 12.
Over 80 vendors in all will show and sell their wares. This year Vanthias, Blue Moon Pizza, JB’s Barbeque, Joe Johnson, Cape May Crab Cake Company, and Boyd’s Barbeque will join the Oceanside Community Club and Wm J Moore Foundation selling Lima Bean soups, Lima Bean stew, Lima Bean chili, Lima Bean salad, and more, in addition to barbequed pork, crab cakes, smoothies, lemonade, and the always popular Kettle Korn.
Antiques, crafts, stained glass, dried flowers, artwork, books, jewelry, and soap will be sold as well as fresh lima beans and other seasonal produce. As always, an array of Lima Bean related products will be for sale such as Lima Bean earrings, Lima Bean pottery, Lima Bean stained glass, Lima Bean hats, and of course, Flying Fish Studios with their quirky Lima Bean t-shirt and sweatshirt designs.
Entertainment this year will include Terry O’Brien’s “Acoustic Mayhem” and “Michael Davis and the Bullets.” The 2009 West Cape May Lima Bean King and Queen will be crowned at 3 p.m. after all day voting.
Proceeds from the Lima Bean Festival benefit the Wilbraham Park Trust and are used exclusively for the maintenance and enhancement of the trees and grounds of the park.
This year the West Cape May Shade Tree Commission has completed extensive work in the park including removal of some diseased trees. These will be replaced with funds derived from the Lima Bean Festival as well as donations from local businesses and the community.
