CREST HAVEN- Cape May County Emergency Management Director Frank McCall has warned municipalities a strong, onshore flow will begin Tuesday which will slow the run off of tidal water and rain water.
According to the National Weather Service, Cape May County should prepare for high wind watches, gale watches, coastal flood watches and high surf advisories beginning Tuesday.
The weather systems may produce minor to moderate beach erosion and minor to moderate tidal flooding
North-northwest winds are forecast at 25 to 35 mph Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning. Waves of seven to eight feet created by winds are not included in the calculations nor is rainfall of 2 inches beginning Tuesday night.
In a memo, McCall advised local emergency managers to recommend:
• Move vehicles to higher grounds Tuesday night through Thursday morning.
• Clear ocean and bay storm drain outfall pipes.
• Shore up weakened dunes.
• Municipalities may want to consider opening temporary shelters at their own discretion.
Low pressure is expected to develop over the Gulf coast states on Wednesday and move past New Jersey
late Wednesday night into early Thursday. There is a full moon on Wednesday. Any strong onshore wind coupled
with higher than normal astronomical tide could cause tidal flooding and beach erosion. Whether there
is a strong onshore flow is dependent largely on the track of the low.
