Recent Rain Causes Retention Pond Breach in Maurice River

By Harry B. Scheeler Jr.

MAURICE RIVER TOWNSHIP– Route 347 at the Cape May County border north to Routes 347 and Route 47 has been closed since 8:30 a.m., this morning due to a retention pond that has a large breach.
Large amounts of water have caused sections of the road to be impassable.
The Cumberland County Office of Emergency Management is on scene with the Red Cross, Leesburg Fire Dept. and Belleplain Emergency Corps.
The Cumberland County Fire Police have also been activated and are diverting traffic around the area.
Emergency Management officials expect the road to be closed throughout the day as workers attempt to remove the excess water.
