Melting Snow, Saturated Ground Spells Trouble for Many

By Al Campbell

COURT HOUSE — Melting snow and saturated ground have combined to spell trouble for many homeowners in Cape May County Feb. 26-27.
The resultant standing water flooded many front and back yards, and made some roads either impassable or limited to one lane.
On Galloping Way in Court House, several Middle Township fire departments were summoned Friday, Feb. 26 and Saturday, Feb. 27 to pump the water which covers the roadway off Dias Creek Road (C.R. 612).
At the intersection of Shunpike and Oyster Road, in the Burleigh section of Middle Township, vehicles were forced to drive through high standing water to enter or leave Oyster Road.
On Route 9 in Whitesboro, near Hi-Tech Auto, water extended nearly across the road. Signs were placed warning of the roadway condition.
Many homeowners have experienced flooding in basements and crawl spaces. Some feared that the water may approach their pumps and furnaces.
