COURT HOUSE – County leaders with the Office of Emergency Management issued an early caution to residents about Hurricane Ian Sept. 28.
The major system made landfall between Tampa and Fort Myers Sept. 28 as a Category 4 hurricane.
Though the hurricane is expected to be downgraded to a tropical storm sometime after its Sept. 28 landfall on the Florida coast, officials expect heavy rain, tidal flooding and some marine hazards Oct. 1.
Periods of rain are possible from Oct. 1 through Oct. 4 with the main day of concern expected to be Oct. 1. Up to 4 inches of rain total are possible.
Northeasterly gale force winds are forecast Oct. 1 through Oct. 3. Gale force winds are defined as surface level wind between 34 and 37 knots; that translates to sustained winds above 39 mph.
“Details on this remain very uncertain,” the statement reads.
