COURT HOUSE – National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory and air quality alert for Cape May County.
The heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m. this evening, July 20.
According to the National Weather Service, maximum heat index values will be 102 to 107 this afternoon, with temperatures in the mid-90s today.
National Weather Service suggests taking extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water.
A heat advisory means that a period of excessive heat is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. Stay out of the sun and check on elderly relatives and neighbors. Keep an eye on children and pets as well.
A code level yellow air quality alert is also in effect, which is moderate and means people unusually sensitive to air pollution may be mildly affected, according to the National Weather Service. Primary pollutant will be ozone.
