TRENTON – Governor Chris Christie today authorized assistance for South Carolina in the face of Hurricane Irma by sending two UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters, a UH-72 helicopter and crew members from the Army National Guard and Air National Guard.
“We are continuing to effectively manage the deployment of significant, necessary resources for states bracing for Hurricane Irma,” Governor Christie said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone in the path of this ongoing natural disaster, which is expected to hit the South East this weekend.”
Approximately 134 soldiers and 40 trucks had already departed from Cape May around 5 a.m. today to assist Florida, while resources the Governor approved to aid Texas victims of Hurricane Harvey returned home last night. Also last night, NJ Task Force 1 was activated to Florida at the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
