WATCH: American Pickers Are Jersey-bound

Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe of the “American Pickers” TV show are looking to explore people's homes

By Karen Knight

COURT HOUSE – Have you been building up a collection of Americana over past years?
If so, then Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz from television show “American Pickers” may pay a visit in September.
Wolfe, Fritz, and their team will be traveling to New Jersey next month to “meet characters with remarkable and exceptional items,” according to Cat Raynor, casting associate. “We are asking people if they have antiques or collections, something with a great story behind it, to call us now. Once we determine who has interesting things, then we’ll know our schedule.”
The Midwestern pickers travel across America in search of rare artifacts and national treasures they can buy from the collectors they visit and then sell in their antique shops, or in some cases, put in their personal collections.
They often have to dig through boxes or piles filled with items that have accumulated over the years, which are often located in such places as barns or spare rooms in owners’ homes. While they are willing to buy pretty much anything old, their particular interests include items having to do with the automobile industry and classic toys, according to Raynor.
“The Pickers hope to give historically significant objects a new lease on life while learning a thing or two about America’s past along the way,” Raynor said. “Mike and Frank have seen a lot of rusty gold over the years and are always looking to discover something they’ve never seen before. We are looking for leads now.”
If someone has a large, private collection or accumulation of antiques that the Pickers can look through, they should contact the show staff.
“Often we like to see photos for a better sense of the collection,” Raynor said. “Once someone sends us their information, one of our staff will reach out to them. If it sounds like something that would be good for the show, we’ll put it on.”
The show is in its 17th season, airing 9 p.m. Mondays on the History Channel. The new season premiers Oct. 16 and viewers can expect to see New Jersey episodes sometime this winter.
Anyone with a collection interested in contacting the show should send their name, phone number, location, and description of the collection with photos to americanpickers@cineflex.com, call 855-OLD-RUST (653-7878), or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/GotAPick/.
