WILDWOOD – On or about Jan. 29, new traffic patterns will be implemented on Rio Grande Avenue (C.R. 661) from the George Redding Bridge to Arctic Avenue to accommodate ongoing construction.
According to a release, the new traffic patterns are necessary to accommodate the reconstruction of the northerly portion of Rio Grande Avenue.
This traffic pattern is expected to remain in place until early spring.
Eastbound traffic approaching the bridge will be channeled from two lanes into one lane as it approaches the crest of the bridge and will continue across the bridge in the outer eastbound lane.
Traffic wishing to continue east toward Park Boulevard will be directed south onto Susquehanna Avenue to Hand Avenue and east to Park Boulevard.
The traffic signal at the intersection of Hand Avenue and Park Boulevard will remain operational during this stage of construction.
Rio Grande Avenue between Arctic Avenue and Park Boulevard will be limited to westbound traffic only. Traffic wishing to access the businesses immediately south of the bridge may do so by using the new slip ramp at Old Rio Grande Avenue at the easterly foot of the bridge.
Westbound Rio Grande Avenue traffic approaching Park Boulevard will be channeled into the former eastbound lane between Arctic Avenue and Park Boulevard.
Westbound traffic will continue toward the bridge while occupying former inner eastbound lane. Traffic approaching Susquehanna Avenue will continue to occupy the former inside lane of the former eastbound lanes until approaching the base of the bridge.
At that point, traffic will be guided back into the original westbound lanes crossing the bridge.
Hand Avenue will be open to two-way traffic from Park Boulevard to Lake Drive, however, westbound traffic will not be permitted to proceed beyond the intersection. Motorists will not be able to access Rio Grande Avenue by heading north on Susquehanna Avenue.
Park Boulevard will be closed between Rio Grande Avenue and West Taylor Avenue.
Northbound Park Boulevard traffic wishing to continue north will be detoured to West Hand Avenue to New Jersey Avenue to West Taylor back to Park Boulevard.
Southbound Park Boulevard traffic wishing to continue traveling south will be detoured to West Andrews Avenue to New Jersey Avenue to either Rio Grande Avenue or West Leaming Avenue to Park Boulevard.
Rio Grande Avenue will be closed to eastbound traffic between Park Boulevard and Arctic Avenue.
