County Announces Replacement of Stormwater Pipes

By Press Release

WEST CAPE MAY – Starting Sept. 25, Landberg Construction, LLC of Mays Landing, the contractor on Cape May County’s 2017 Miscellaneous Drainage Improvement Contract, plans to begin replacing stormwater pipes that cross West Perry Street between Park Boulevard and Jackson Street in the Borough of West Cape May.
Construction work hours are typically from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Due to the nature of the construction, West Perry Street will be closed to through traffic during working hours and traffic will be detoured to Beach Avenue. However, residences and businesses on West Perry Street will be accessible during construction.
It was recently discovered that the existing stormwater pipes crossing West Perry Street were collapsing and they appear to be undersized. New 16-inch diameter ductile iron pipes will be installed. The new pipes will be installed deep to avoid conflicts with existing utilities buried in the street. The catch basins will also be replaced as part of the project.
West Perry Street will be open each night after construction working hours, however, motorists are cautioned that the trenches where the pipe work is being undertaken will only be temporarily repaired. Motorists are advised to avoid the work areas, and if not, to use caution when traveling through the construction zones.
Variable message signs advising motorists of the pending work will be placed prior to and during the work operations.
The pipe replacements are expected to take approximately one week to complete.
This schedule is subject to change and is dependent upon having good weather.
This work is part of the County’s $400,000 construction contract awarded by the Cape May County Board of Chosen Freeholders to Landberg Construction, LLC on Feb. 28.
Later this fall, South State, Inc. will be resurfacing this portion of West Perry Street under their 2017 Maintenance Paving contract with Cape May County. More information regarding the resurfacing will be released once the date is set for the work.
Questions may be directed to Cape May County Public Works Department at 609-465-1035.
