Should Salt Water Taffy Be NJ’s State Candy?

TRENTON – An Assembly committee approved a bill that would honor the candy with the designation June 5, according to a report on NBC 40.
A group of fifth-graders from Sayreville’s Samsel Upper Elementary School testified before the panel in Trenton.
Student Tyler Graham says designating an official state candy can help attract people to the state’s boardwalks, most of which have been rebuilt following Hurricane Sandy.
Assemblyman John Wisniewski introduced the measure at the students’ request following a lesson on how a bill becomes law.
The soft taffy became popular as a souvenir in Atlantic City in the late 19th century.
