WILDWOOD CREST – The Board of Commissioners has rejected bids for two projects after receiving a single bid for each one.
The bids, which were rejected at the May 28 commissioners meeting, were deemed “nonresponsive,” meaning they did not meet the criteria set by the borough.
A bid from A. Guzzo Landscaping, LLC, for landscaping services for Higbee and Morey fields was rejected because it “substantially exceeds the cost estimates.”
Mayor Don Cabrera said the contract would have called for everything from weeding to fertilization, with the exception of normal grass cutting.
“We were looking for someone with a license for pest treatments, and so forth,” Cabrera said.
According to the mayor, the landscaping bid for the two fields was $18,000, which was more than what was budgeted.
A bid for plumbing and electrical services for the Nesbitt Center also was rejected. The bid was deemed nonresponsive because the bidder, Anzelone Electric Co., LLC, did not provide the borough with a required subcontractor registration.
The borough is looking to lease the Nesbitt Center, which was the tourist information office until those duties were relocated to the Arts Pavilion. Cabrera said earlier this year that the borough was seeking to get a vendor for the center.
He said there was interest by a vendor to establish a café type business there, but the building only has a toilet and front desk, requiring additional plumbing and electrical work to make it viable. He said the borough would either have to upgrade the building or scale down expectations for the center.
The borough has the option of seeking new bids for both projects.
