Sea Isle City – 8-2-2006

If you think your property or your neighbor’s is helping make Sea Isle City beautiful, then it’s time to get your applications for the Environmental Commission’s 20th Annual Beautification Award.
Criteria includes properties that show improvements in overall appearance, lovely architecture, or landscaping. New and old properties, condominiums, and commercial and public buildings are eligible.
The judging will take place during the first week of September and colorful plaques that may be placed on the outside of the properties honored will be awarded during Fall Family Festival on September 17, at noon.
Candidates may be self-nominated or may be nominated by friends, neighbors, or neighborhood associations.
Applications must be submitted to City Hall by Sept. 1.
Applications are available at City Hall, the Tourist Information Center at 40th Street and the Promenade, and the Beach Badge Office. Previous winners are not eligible.

“The Hobbit” is being presented by the Sea Isle City Department of Recreation’s Summer Theatre Workshop at the Townsend’s Inlet Civic Center on 85th Street.
The production will wrap up with their final shows tonight through Saturday.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and tickets are available at the door.
All performances are at 7:30 p.m. and the house opens at 7 p.m.

Something new for children and adults to enjoy this summer is Tuesday Family Fun and Flick Night, which will be held through Aug. 29.
The fun starts at 7 p.m. in the downtown business area with costumed characters, a magician, and a live zoo exhibit, entertaining to everyone on different nights until dusk.
A free movie will be shown outdoors on a giant screen at the open space beachfront lot located at Kennedy Boulevard and Pleasure Avenue. In case of rain or high winds, the movie will be moved to the Community Lodge, Kennedy Boulevard and Park Road.
The Surf’s Splash will be there Aug. 15. On other nights, there will be a magic act by Sea Isle’s own Bill Gallagher, Aug. 8, and a live animal exhibit by the Cape My County Zoo’s Outreach Program on Aug. 29.
The free movie night is being co-sponsored by the Sea Isle City Tourism Department, the Greater Sea Isle City Chamber of Commerce, and Comcast Cable.
Everyone is advised to bring beach chairs or blankets for seating and to come early for a good spot.
An information table will include the Chamber’s Vacation Guide and tourism brochure.
The Chamber is selling advertising space on the movie screen. For more information about advertising, call 263-8300.

The Captain Bill Gallagher Island Run will celebrate its 36th anniversary with approximately 1,300 men and women expected to participate in the 10 mile run.
One of the most popular events of the summer season, the annual run has become a tradition for many families and visitors.
The race is on Aug. 12, and will get underway at 5:30 p.m., rain or shine, at the beach patrol headquarters, 44th and the Promenade.
In case of an electrical storm, however, the run would be postponed until the first evening that conditions permit.
Drink sponsors are Arizona Iced Tea and Canada Dry Company of Atlantic City.
There is a pre-registration fee of $20 per individual and a team entry fee of $23 per person by Aug. 2.
The post registration fee is $25 per individual and a team entry fee of $28 per person after Aug. 2. Entry fees are non-refundable.
Post registration and race packets pick-ups, including tee shirts for the first 1,200 entrants, will be available on Aug. 11, from 7 – 9 p.m. and Aug. 12, between 1 and 5 p.m. at the Community Lodge, Kennedy Boulevard and Park Road.
An awards ceremony will be held at the Beach Patrol Headquarters at approximately 7:45 p.m.

The Fourth annual “Blessing of the Sea” ceremony will take place on Aug. 15, at 11:45 a.m. at the 44th Street Beach.
Following the 10:30 a.m. mass, there will be a procession of parishioners led by Father Stephen Carey and members of the Marian Guild.
They will walk from St. Joseph Church to the beach, where lifeguards will row out past the surf to toss a wreath as the blessing is conducted on shore.
Hopefully this event will become a tradition for many years to come.

Messiah Lutheran Church’s Sunday Worship Services are now being held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 301 41st Street Sea Isle City.
Everyone is welcome to the Sunday Service, which starts at 10:30 a.m.
We appreciate the V.F.W’s invitation to hold worship services in the building while we begin planning our new church on Route 9 in Dennis Township.

Mass schedule for St. Joseph Church is the following:
Saturday night in the Church at 5 p.m. and in the Auditorium at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
Sunday in the Church and the Auditorium at 7, 8:30, 10, and 11:30 a.m.
Continuing through Sept. 3, we also add Sunday morning Masses in the T.I Civic Center at 8, 9, 10, and 11 a.m.
