After decades of saving lives along the New Jersey coast, the Ludlam’s Beach Lighthouse in Sea Isle City is now fighting for its own life.
For almost three years, a small group of volunteers—with the help and support of the New Jersey Lighthouse Society, friends of the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse, and the Delaware Bay Lighthouse Keepers and Friends—have been working to rescue the once beautiful 1885 Victorian residential style ocean lighthouse from demolition.
Mayor Leonard Desiderio and the City Council of Sea Isle City have been attempting to secure a new location at the north end of the island in an eco park setting as a permanent home. However, city funds are not available for this kind of project and the present owner is anxious to start new construction on the site.
The Friends of the Ludlam’s Beach Lighthouse have recently received its 501C-3 non-profit status from the federal government. In order to move the lighthouse, $30,000 is needed for the initial move.
The lighthouse will eventually be open to the public. If you’d like to help by becoming a sponsor, visit ludlamsbeachlight.org.
Lower Township – Who are these people that are obvious experts on trash cans and leaf pick-up? Maybe they don't have any trash to put out or leaves in their yard!!
