Residents Set Meeting on Old St. Joseph Church

Original St. Joseph Church

By Bill Barlow

SEA ISLE CITY – A group of residents fighting to save the building that once served as St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church plans to host a public meeting at 10 a.m. Sept. 21, at the Sea Isle City Community Lodge, 300 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
The parish moved to a new, larger building in 2011. Now, the parish wants to demolish the century-old building to make way for a spiritual life center.
“We’re still fighting this,” said Tom Henry, an organizer of the group. He said the building could be used for weddings, funerals and other events.
Church officials said the proposed demolition is part of a larger effort to meet the needs of the parish.
