Parties, Candidates Prepare for Primary

COURT HOUSE – In less than a month, registered Democrats and Republicans will head to the polls, or mail in their ballots which are already in voters’ hands, to select candidates for the November general election. 
The June 5 primary election is heavier at the top than at the bottom on both slates. Polls will remain open that day from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
U.S. Senate, one six-year term.
Republicans and Democrats each have two candidates.
Incumbent Democrat Robert Menendez is being challenged by Lisa McCormick. Within the county, Menendez is running under the slogan, “Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization.” McCormick is running under “Democrats for Change.”
Republicans will select between Bob Hugin, “Cape May County Regular Republican Organization” and Brian Goldberg, “Cape May County MAGA Republicans.”
House of Representatives, one two-year term.
With the pending departure of U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo from his 2nd Congressional District seat when his term ends, the race is on inside both parties to find a candidate pleasing to voters in November.
Each party has four candidates eyeing the soon-to-be-vacated seat.
Republicans will choose between Seth Grossman “Cape May County MAGA Republicans,” Samuel Fiocchi “Cape May County Regular Republican Organization,” Robert Turkavage “Effective Representation for Southern New Jersey,” and Hirsh Singh, “Conservative Regular Republican for South Jersey.”
Democrats will select from the field that includes Tanzira “Tanzie” Youngblood, “New Jersey Democrats 4 Change,” William Cunningham, “True Democratic Values,” Nate Kleinman “Independent Democrat,” and Jeff Van Drew “Cape May County Regular Democratic Organization.”
Freeholder, one three-year term.
Running unopposed from within the party is incumbent Republican Leonard C. Desiderio “Cape May County Regular Republican Organization.”
Similarly unopposed from within the party is Democrat Jeremiah Schenerman “True Democratic Values.”
Municipal Races
Candidates in municipal races are endorsed by their respective county party organizations unless otherwise noted.
Dennis Township Committee, Vote for one, three-year term:
Democrat Dorothy Merlino. Republican Frank Germanio Jr.
Vote for one, one-year unexpired term:
Republican Matthew Cox. Democrat Renee Pettit.
Lower Township Council
Ward 1: Vote for one, four-year term:
Democrat Carmela Pallotta. Republican Thomas Conrad.
Ward 2: Vote for one, four-year term:
Republican David Perry. Democrat Thomas Poussart.
Ward 3: Vote for one, four-year term:
Democrat Chris Marlowe. Republican Roland Roy Jr.
Middle Township Committee, vote for one, three-year term.
Republican Theron “Ike” Gandy. Democrat Jeffrey DeVico.
North Wildwood City Council, vote for one, three-year term.
Democrats filed no petitions for offices.
Republicans 1st Ward, James Kane, 2nd Ward, Joseph Rullo.
Stone Harbor Borough Council, vote for two, three-year term.
Democrats filed no petitions for offices.
Republicans Raymond Parzych, Robert Levins
Upper Township Committee, vote for two, three-year term.
Democrats filed no petitions for offices.
Republicans Richard Palombo, Edward Barr, Jon Grubb, no slogan.
Woodbine
Mayor, vote for one, four-year term.
Democrats filed no petition.
Republican William Pikolycky.
Woodbine Borough Council, vote for two, three-year term.
Republican Michael Benson, Joseph Johnson III.
