Martin Luther King III

By Press Release

WILDWOOD – Cape May County Indivisible will have Martin Luther King III as its keynote speaker at the protest Jan. 28 at 3 p.m.
According to a release, Cassandra Gatelein, Shayla Woolfort, and Kaylin Lydia are co-chairs of Cape May County Indivisible, and are the organizers of the event.
“We are incredibly thrilled and honored to have Martin Luther King III come, speak, and stand in solidarity with all of us,” stated Gatelein.
Other speakers are to include NJEA President Marie Blistan, Working Families Director Sue Altman, Refuse Fascism Philly activist Sefi Schiller, Rev. Dawn Fortune, and Pastor Willie Francois.
There will be performances by local band, “The Squares,” spoken word poet LoReal “Elle Vintage” Chrisp, and music by DJ Brandon Smith of Music Stop.
Cape May County Indivisible’s general protest will be from 3-9 p.m., and speakers will be from 4:30-7 p.m. The location will be Bennett Avenue and the Boardwalk.
“When hate comes to our backyard, we have a moral obligation to take action and not look away. We stand in solidarity with the historically marginalized communities that this administration is hurting. Thousands of kids in cages didn’t have the privilege of turning the other cheek,” stated Woolfort, co-chair of CMC Indivisible. “We stand in peaceful protest to reject the racism, bigotry, violence and corruption of the Trump administration.”
At a time when the Democratic Party is facing its own internal struggles, the grassroots community continues to thrive, and unite.
Indivisible will be joined by progressive groups throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania including New Jersey Working Families; ATNJ; NJ 11th For Change; CD-2 Progressive Democrats; NJ7 Forward; South Jersey Women for Progressive Change; Refuse Fascism Philly, Collingswood Democratic Committee; South Jersey Progressive Democrats, Upper Township Democrats, United Progressive Democrats; NJ-08 for Progress; Hudson County Progressive Alliance; Our Revolution NJ; South Orange Maplewood Action; Indivisible Cranbury; District 4 Coalition for Change; and People for Progress, among others.
“This country was founded on protest – protest is patriotic. Not everyone is going to like what we’re doing and that’s okay. Protest is supposed to make people feel uncomfortable, because it’s bringing attention to what needs to be changed.” stated Gatelein, co-chair of CMC Indivisible, “We are focused on grassroots unity and solidarity – and building our power to make this country better for all of us.”
Gatelein, Woolfort and Lydia are also focused on safety.
“We are actively coordinating with the mayor’s office and local police to ensure that everybody stays safe while exercising their rights,” they stated.
Cape May County Indivisible is a progressive, grassroots collective, organizing for social, racial, reproductive and environmental justice.
