Stop by the 17th annual Pumpkin Festival and celebrate all things Halloween and autumn. This festive event will take place on the grounds of Historic Cold Spring Village on Saturday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Rain date: Sunday, Oct. 19) and is presented by the Lower Township Rotary Club.
Admission is free and select Village buildings will be open to the public from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Guests are encouraged to “share the harvest” by donating non-perishable goods to the Cape May County Food Bank.
Pumpkin painting and children’s games will be in abundance and a variety of crafters will sell their wares along the Village’s shell-paved lanes.
The Jersey Shore Alpacas will also be present for children to visit with. Visit a haunted house at the Village Barn and hop on a haunted hayride.
Don’t miss the Children’s Halloween Parade held at noon throughout the Village lanes. Please call the Lower Township Recreation Department at 609-886-7880 for registration information.
Vendors will be selling hot dogs, popcorn and pretzels, funnel cake, and other snacks. The Old Grange Restaurant will be presenting ‘Octoberfest’ specials, featuring candy apples, soft pretzels and more, on the porch of the restaurant, plus unique lunch specials and a German-themed dinner buffet. The Village Country Store will be offering a 50 percent off sale (discount excludes Village artisans’ wares).
Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit, open air living history museum that portrays the daily life of a rural South Jersey community of the Early American era.
Its mission includes the preservation of 26 historic Cape May County buildings, history education and heritage tourism.
The Village is a museum for all seasons. During the summer months, interpreters in period clothing discuss and demonstrate the trades, crafts and lifestyles from the “age of homespun.”
From October to May, the emphasis is on teaching history through school trips to the Village, classroom visits by the education department and interactive teleconferences with schools throughout the United States.
The Village is located on Route 9, three miles north of Cape May and a mile and a half west of the southern terminus of the Garden State Parkway.
