Officer Saves Dog from Icy Lake

The dog's owner presents a gift to Patrolman Jordan Saini

By Press Release

HIGBEE BEACH – Lower Township Police Department, along with West Cape May, Cape May Point, and Cape May fire departments responded to Davey’s Lake, located in the Higbee Beach Wildlife Management Area, at approximately 1:53 p.m., Jan. 21, for a report of a dog that had fallen through the ice.
According to a release, upon the officer’s arrival, they quickly made their way to the lake. The officers observed a yellow retriever that had appeared to have fallen through the ice approximately 30 feet from the bank of the lake. The dog was unable to get out of the water and was struggling to stay afloat. The owner of the dog was on scene.
Patrolman Jordan Saini made his way onto the ice and out to the dog. When he attempted to pull the dog onto the ice, the ice gave way beneath them. Saini and the dog fell into the frigid lake. Saini was able to swim over to the ice shelf with the dog and get out of the water. He then pulled the dog out of the water and onto the ice. Saini and the dog were able to walk on the ice and back onto the bank of the lake, unharmed.
Saini was assisted by Patrolman William Kocis and Patrolman Jason Felsing.
