North Wildwood now has it’s own radio station at 1640AM.
“We’ve been really pleased with the response to the city’s own radio station,” said North Wildwood Mayor Bill Henfey. “Each and every week, we’re hearing from more residents and visitors who are using the radio station as an important source of public information.”
North Wildwood launched its own low power radio station earlier this year. Its primary goal is to disseminate emergency information in the event of a storm or other public emergency. When none exists, they broadcast information about various community events.
“The response to North Wildwood’s own radio station in the summertime has been exceptional,” said North Wildwood Council President Patrick Rosenello. “We know people are more mobile than ever during the summer, and our own city radio station is a valuable, portable tool that the city uses to get out information about special events that appeal to both residents and visitors.”
North Wildwood’s 1640AM radio station provides full coverage to the city, and can be heard clearly several miles outside of the community. The radio station will “break in” to regular event programming during a storm or other emergency to provide information regarding storms, flooding, tides, and even evacuations if needed.
Emergency personnel from the police, fire, and emergency management departments of North Wildwood city government not only access the radio station from a remote location, but can get information “live” on the radio airwaves from a remote site, if needed.
Henfey also notes that thanks to the generosity of many local organizations and businesses, the radio station is no cost to city taxpayers.
Henfey lists the following groups as major contributors to this radio project: Anglesea Volunteer Fire Company, Van Note Harvey Engineering Firm, Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), Remington Vernick Engineering Firm, North Wildwood Tavern Owners Association, North Wildwood Volunteer Fire Company, Triad Associates, and Wawa.
“We want to make sure residents and visitors know that their first option for North Wildwood information should be our 1640AM radio station,” Rosenello said.
The station is located inside the North Wildwood Public Safety Building, at Fifth and New Jersey avenues in North Wildwood.
