NJ’s 5th State ‘Most Bothered’ by Robocalls

By Eric Conklin

Newly available data shows New Jersey as being one of the top states most bothered by robocalls in 2019.
According to a report by Let’s Talk (http://bit.ly/2TsMgRU), New Jersey residents made more than 194,927 Do Not Call complaints to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), placing the state fifth in the nation, with Cape May County totaling 1,325 of those complaints.
Officials have taken the initiative to crack down on robocall violations.
U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-2nd) voted Dec. 4, 2019, to pass the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, which would, in part, require phone companies to offer screening technology to block and identify robocalls at no additional cost to customers.
After being passed by Congress, the act was approved by the Senate and was signed into law by President Donald Trump Dec. 30, 2019.
