WILDWOOD – The changing face of Rio Grande Avenue, in Wildwood, is largely the work of BMS Restaurant Holdings LLC, owners and developers of several successful businesses in the area of Rio Grande and New Jersey avenues, including MudHen Brewing Company, Poppi’s Brick Oven Pizza, and Dogtooth Bar & Grill.
Under the umbrella of MudHen Hospitality, the food and beverage operator is branching out into the accommodations industry after acquiring property at Taylor and Pacific avenues, which also abuts Rio Grande Avenue.
Plans announced on the MudHen Brewing Company website show renderings and site plans for six two-bedroom luxury cottages and a four-bedroom single house, along with a swimming pool, recreation area, bicycles, golf carts, and laundry facilities for each unit.
The MudHen Brewing Company, started in 2018, is located in the heart of the downtown area of Wildwood, per the MudHen website. MudHen Hospitality, it claims, will provide a perfect destination for craft beer lovers and beach lovers alike.
Located on Taylor Avenue, bordered by Pacific and Rio Grande avenues, the MudHen Hospitality cottages are only a short distance from the Wildwood Boardwalk, beaches, and the only craft brewery on the island.
“Visitors can expect a first-class vacation experience and memories that will last a lifetime,” the website states.
The site says it’s a short walk, bike, or golf cart ride to the brewery, which is also a restaurant and nightly entertainment spot.
BMS Restaurant Holdings has acquired several other properties in the area, including lots around the MudHen, the former Seven Seas bar, the Domino’s Pizza building, and the old Verizon building.
According to wildwoodvideoarchive.com, the largest piece of land BMS Restaurant Holdings acquired was 156 E. Taylor Ave., which was known as the Miller House.
The property was a quadruple-sized lot, with one of the original houses on the island sitting in the middle, the website said. BMS Restaurant Holdings purchased the property in October 2021 for a little under $1 million, along with 146 E. Taylor Ave.
Many didn’t notice that something was happening to this property until all the trees around the house were removed and the building sat bare. The lot was cleared to make way for the new construction.
