DIAMOND BEACH – A boater on his way to Texas got lost in the dark and beached his sailboat about 25 feet from shore Aug. 11, NJ.com reports.
Lower Township police were alerted to the sailboat in the water at about 11 p.m. in Diamond Beach.
According to police, James DeGarmo, 67, the sole occupant, was suffering from an undisclosed medical condition, unrelated to the beaching of the boat, and was taken to an area hospital. DeGarmo was still hospitalized as of Aug. 13.
The local Public Works Department towed the sailboat out of the water Aug. 12.
The sailboat was still on the beach as of Sunday morning, the report continued.
