The Junior Golfers’ Association of America, non-profit 501c3 now manages the Atlantic Central District Optimist Qualifier for all of New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
On April 25 at Greate Bay Country Club in Somers Point, junior golfers from all over will venture to South Jersey in the effort of qualifying for the Optimist International Championship (OIC).
Kids from outside New Jersey and Pennsylvania may participate in this event if their district (usually by state) doesn’t offer a qualifier or the date of their qualifier is bad for them.
The OIC (three championship rounds) will be held at PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and is organized for boys and girls ages 10 to 18 years old by the following age divisions: 10-11, 12-13, 14-15, and 16-18.
Boys and Girls compete separately in their own divisions.
The dates for the OIC are as follows: Ages 10 to 15 will compete from July 23-28; ages 16 to 18 from July 28 through August 2.
The JGA of America, through entry fees and sponsorships, will pay the OIC entry fee of $605 for the lowest scoring boy and girl in the ages 16 to 18 who reside in our district.
More information about the OIC can be found at juniorgolfers.net or optimist.org.
Anyone who is interested in competing or sponsoring to help junior golf or one of our local kids advance, contact John Petronis at 609-374-1414 or johnpetronis@juniorgolfers.net.
