High Drama in the pulpit

By On Deck Staff

First Presbyterian Church of Cape May presents a series of “first person sermons” by Rev. Jim Richards.
These dramatizations of seven biblical personalities are designed to provoke strong feelings, to make us think about the events during Jesus’ last week of life, and to view in a new light the experiences and feelings of the individuals portrayed.
Last Sunday Richards delivered the first of these dramatizations.
Church-goers were rapt hearing the story of Malchus, servant of the high priest, who had his ear severed by Peter during the arrest of Jesus.
Richards displayed Malchus with vitality and realism, making the story believable and moving.
On Sunday, March 8, the series will focus on Barabbas, the zealot terrorist that Pilate spared instead of Jesus. The week after, Richards will portray Caiaphas, the high priest who orchestrated the death of Jesus.
Services are open to the public and all are invited.
The dramatic series will be presented during both the 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday services from March 8h through Easter, April 12 with two exceptions.
On March 29 there will be a single service at 10 a.m., and on Maundy Thursday, April 9 there will be an extra service (with a dramatization) at 7 p.m.
First Presbyterian Church is at the corner of Hughes and Decatur streets in downtown Cape May. Parking is available.
