“No movie ushered in an era of terrorizing modern-age special effects than War of the Worlds,” according to JC Stinson, Creative Director for the Cape May Film Society.
Cape May Stage, professional Equity theatre company, and the Film Society are partnering to bring this special Halloween screening of the HG Wells classic movie to the Robert Shackleton Playhouse at Bank and Lafayette streets on Monday, Oct. 27, at 7 p.m.
“George Pal was the producer of the film,” says Stinson, “and he was responsible for the special effects, which gained him an Oscar in 1954. War of the Worlds won two other Oscars that year for both editing and sound. It’s a great example of cutting edge work that many special effects professionals use today. And it’s a great scare!”
The Cape May Film Society hosts the Cape May Film Festival, which is New Jersey’s premiere film festival dedicated to the support and presentation of creative, challenging, groundbreaking, film/video works by New Jersey filmmakers.
The society is also the region’s leading educational and cultural resource for youth and adult learners interested in all facets of the cinematic experience.
Stinson plans to present more examples of the producer’s work in addition to some scary history about the “original invasion” that was War of the Worlds.
Tickets are $10 for non-members of the CM film society and $5 for members and/or season tickets holders at CMS. Call Cape May Film Society at 609-884-6700 or visit www.capemayfilm.org.
