WOODBINE — Mayor William Pikolycky announced that the Borough of Woodbine received grant funding from N.J. Department of Transportation Airport Improvement Program for $25,145 for the state share for the construction of the helicopter parking apron project at Woodbine Municipal Airport.
This brings the funding total to $591,834, according to a release.
“I want to thank both FAA and NJDOT for their commitment to this important project which can now move forward into the construction phase,” stated Pikolycky. “Demand for helicopter activity has been increasing at our airport and as a result we are addressing the need to expand in order to accommodate helicopter operations while at the same time not interfering with our single-wing aircraft.”
The Federal Aviation Administration had recently allotted Airport Improvement Program (AIP) Funding for $566,689 for the design and construction of this helicopter parking apron.
Woodbine is looking to assign a designated helicopter parking area to provide adequate separation between fixed and rotary-wing parking areas. The proposed helicopter parking area will provide two parking spaces that will support the design helicopters Eurocopter BK117 B-2 (Skid) and Agusta Westland A109E (Wheels).
The proposed parking will be a rectangular paved asphalt and concrete surface measuring approximately 10,450 square feet.
The helicopter parking area will not include lighting. To provide safety during night operations, edge reflectors will be installed alongside the edges of the parking area.
This construction area will consist of paved asphalt and a rectangular concrete surface measuring a total approximately 22,000 square feet.
