STONE HARBOR — Borough council reported Aug. 21 that borough solicitors from Stone Harbor, Avalon and Sea Isle City are in the process of reviewing contracts for a shared TVTN (TelVue Virtual Television Network) channel.
TVTN Channel 2 would be a government public service channel for the benefit of the three respective municipalities.
“The whole thing started with a cooperative effort,” Stone Harbor Councilman Randall Bauer, chairman of the utilities committee told the Herald.
“This is an opportunit to bring information to the people in the communities at the government level.”
Bauer noted a public access channel would provide the opportunity to rebroadcast taped council meetings, a possibility he said both mayor and council support as a whole.
Two county municipalities, Lower Township and Ocean City, currently have public access channels and use them in this way.
Bauer said planning board and zoning board meetings could also be rebroadcast for the benefit of the public.
The three boroughs are still trying to work out details of how airtime would be divided, whether in three 20-minute intervals per hour, or in another fashion.
TVTN would act as the producer of Channel 2 programming, Bauer said, providing each municipality with the capability to create unique content.
Public service announcements, listings of activities, and school information, could be broadcast.
“It (TVTN Channel 2) will be important in establishing our (the three boroughs collectively) commonalities, and the flexibility to adjust to public interest in each borough,” Bauer told the Herald.
When borough solicitors finish reviewing the contracts, boroughs can resolve to move forward with the television channel, after which programming may be broadcast this fall.
