WILDWOOD – Mayor Pete Byron is pleased to announce that the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs has awarded the City of Wildwood a Small Cities Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) in the amount of $400,000 to construct and install an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)-compliant access ramp to the Boardwalk on the beach side of East Spicer Avenue.
“This project serves to advance the City’s vision to provide greater, ADA-compliant access to the Boardwalk by Wildwood’s disabled residents and visitors,” Byron said. “This will not only help create a more accessible and inclusive community but will enhance quality of life.”
According to Byron, the City will construct a multi-switchback, ADA-compliant, timber-and-aluminum ramp on the east side of the Boardwalk, accessed by an improved Boardwalk underpass. The ramp will be of a design that is consistent with the historic integrity of the 100-year-old Boardwalk.
Byron also noted that the access ramp complements the multi-phase, multi-million-dollar reconstruction of the iconic Boardwalk that has been underway for the past few years.
The City’s application was prepared by Triad Associates of Vineland – a community and economic development firm that has secured over $1.4 billion in funding for its clients over the past 44 years.
“We thank the Department of Community Affairs for this award and for their commitment to Wildwood,” concluded Byron. “We look forward to constructing this needed access ramp for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”
