WILDWOOD – The City of Wildwood has received notice from Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver that the N.J. Department of Community Affairs has awarded the city a Small Cities grant of $400,000 to improve access to the police department for persons with disabilities.
“This grant is the first step in providing accessibility to the police department for all persons, which is especially important for victims and witnesses,” stated Mayor Ernie Troiano in a release. With the grant, the city will make the main entrance to the Police Department more accessible by building a ramp and enlarging the lobby to accommodate wheelchairs.
Troiano also advised the city is applying for a second phase of Small Cities funding to gain accessibility to the second floor of the Police Department for persons with disabilities.
Access to the second floor is necessary for victims to give statements in interview rooms and for employees to have full building access.
