Wildwood Crest Commission Reorganizes, Keeps Current Posts

By Lauren Suit

WILDWOOD CREST – No big changes for the borough during the reorganization meeting on Tuesday May 19.
Carl Groon will remain the mayor of Wildwood Crest and the three commissioners will all keep their current assignments: Groon will man Public Safety, Joyce Gould will be in charge of revenue and finance, and Don Cabrera will head up public works.
After taking the oath of office,Groon thanked his wife for her tolerance and expressed his gratitude to the voters and taxpayers of the borough.
“We want to keep the Crest the way it is and continue to enhance life here,” he said.
Gould, who was the top vote getter in the election and named deputy mayor, said it was an honor to serve alongside Groon. She also noted that the differences among the commissioners was “a good thing.”
“Ninety-four percent of the time we get along real well, it that other 6 percent,” she said jokingly.
“But honestly,” she told the small crowd that assembled at Crest Pier for the swearing in ceremony, “you won’t like it if we were all the same.”
Cabrera also thanked his family and residents and offered praise to their political opponent, Robert Bethel.
“I give Bob a lot of credit,” Cabrera said. “To put you name in the hat takes a lot of integrity and courage and I want to acknowledge his commitment to the borough.”
Cabrera said that he hopes to work with Bethel and others who have ideas to better improve the quality of life in Wildwood Crest.
All three commissioners wanted to thank the borough staff for all their hard work.
“This staff makes us look good as commissioners,” Cabrera said.
