WILDWOOD – The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) has awarded a $186,000 grant to the City of Wildwood for Park Boulevard road reconstruction. The funding was announced in a letter from NJDOT Commissioner Steven Dilts to Mayor Ernie Troiano dated October 14.
“I am very pleased that Wildwood has received this State grant,” said Troiano. “NJDOT’s Municipal Aid Program is very competitive and we work hard to pursue these funds. We are constantly trying to improve the City’s infrastructure. This work is extremely expensive and any grants we acquire to help relieve the burden on the taxpayers are appreciated.”
The Park Boulevard reconstruction project is part of the City-wide effort to improve and upgrade the existing decades-old infrastructure. The Municipal Engineer, working with the Wildwood Sewer Utility, has identified a priority list of dilapidated and non-functional sanitary sewer and drainage pipes. A funding plan is developed and grant applications are submitted wherever possible.
“We worked with Mayor Troiano to cross leverage this grant opportunity with the USDA (US Department of Agriculture) Phase 3 Sewer Project, which included sanitary sewer replacement on Park Boulevard,” said Municipal Engineer Marc DeBlasio of Remington & Vernick. “Employing this strategy reduces the loan exposure on the USDA project by providing $186,000 to offset the loan obligation and reduce the eventual cost to the taxpayer.”
