DENNISVILLE – Former Gov. Chris Christie signed the Animal Enforcement Law that stripped law enforcement authority from the New Jersey Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and transferred it to county prosecutors. The law, discussed July 10 at the Dennis Township Committee meeting, requires the designation of a municipal humane law enforcement officer after Aug. 1 in each municipality with an existing police department. Since it does not have a police department, the committee decided to reach out to the Woodbine New Jersey State Police station and the Cape May County Sheriff’s Office to discuss the possibility of designating someone within their departments as the township’s designated humane law enforcement officer.
