CAPE MAY – Cape May City Council passed a resolution March 19, to authorize use of competitive contracting to provide tourist and visitor transportation services.
Unhappy with the arrangement that governs the current trolley service, the city was looking to implement a system that is more predictable and attractive to visitors.
In November 2018, the advisory committee on parking presented its interim report. One of its recommendations called on the city to establish better transportation services for visitors and tourists in the summer.
Arguing that the current agreement with the trolley operator must be “more formal, favorable and business-like,” the committee pushed for a transportation arrangement that would facilitate the movement of visitors along the city’s major arteries, reducing the dependence on private vehicles.
The resolution opens the path for competitive bidding to meet requirements the city will develop.
