CREST HAVEN – Volunteers in Medicine of Cape May County was awarded a subcontract for the fifth year to provide free primary medical care for the Human Services Department. The program for $70,000 was approved by freeholders Feb. 23.
Located in Court House, the organization provides medical care to those who lack medical insurance, falling between the levels to get other care. It is staffed by volunteer physicians, nurses and support staff. The contract runs until Dec. 31, 2016.
The board also approved subcontracts with addiction-related organizations through Dec. 31, 2017. They were New Hope Foundation and Maryville, Inc. for short-term residential services, for $53,036 and $39,210, respectively. Both also provide sub-acute detoxification services, according to the resolution. Also included was Hendricks House, as a halfway house, for $9,612. The programs are administered through the Department of Human Services.
A 10-year contract was approved with Aramark Sports and Entertainment Services, LLC to operate and lease the concession facilities at County Park and Zoo. The contract continues from Feb. 24, 2016 to Dec. 31, 2025. Aramark guaranteed the county a minimum $250,000 annually, based on revenue stream; also the entity will make an $890,000 capital investment at the park and zoo in year six, and it will give $100,000 to the county within 30 days of the adoption of the resolution to be used at the zoo. Purchasing Agent Kevin Lare said the county received more than that in 2015.

Appointed Nicole Hoff, consumer, and Barbara Makoski, member-at-large to the Human Services Advisory Council with terms from March 1 until Dec. 31, 2018.
Amended a mutual agreement between the county and the Municipal Utilities Authority for the temporary staffing of the position of County Laboratory director to extend the term through May 31, 2016.
Renewed with Atlantic County a shared services agreement for use of Atlantic County Detention Center, also known as Harborfields. The facility houses juveniles as needed. The agreement continues until Dec. 31, 2016.
Awarded contract to Securus Technologies, Inc. to provide web-based video visitation for inmates at the Correctional Center. Contract will end Jan. 25, 2021. Because of a new order by the FCC, reducing the amount permitted to be charged for those services, a reduced amount will be received by the county.
Reappointed Dave Clemans to the Open Space Review Board until Feb. 23, 2017.
Approved a $5,000 agreement with American Aerospace Technologies, Inc to assist the county in securing a certificate of waiver or authorization that will permit the county to “pursue unmanned aircraft systems activities that are in the public interest.”
Approved a “not to exceed” $50,000 Historic Preservation Trust Fund grant to Naval Air Station Wildwood Hangar No. 1 for its window restoration and painting program.
Approved a similar agreement with Historic Cold Spring Village Foundation for $15,750 to preserve and stabilize four historic buildings at the living history museum.
Approved an $18,587 change order with Aliano Brothers General Contractors Inc for the Stone Harbor Branch Library. THe change was for addition of a fire alarm panel room, flood barrier shields, change in first floor design, larger elevator and change in elevation of mud slab.”
Approved through the Historic Preservation Trust Fund a $200,000 grant to Ocean City to restore its City Hall, including repointing of bricks. The project is estimated at $400,000 with the city paying the remainder.
