TRENTON — On March 30, Sen. Jeff Van Drew (D-1st) wrote to Gov. Chris Christie asking him to declare a state of emergency in South Jersey.
The following is the letter:
I am writing you to ask that you once again declare a State of Emergency for Southern New Jersey counties. The current heavy rains have caused major flooding and damage throughout the region. The good people of New Jersey are doing there best to protect their homes but many are unable to keep up and never recovered from previous storms. On behalf of my colleagues, Assemblymen Albano and Milam I ask that you deploy the guard with pumps to Cape May and parts of Atlantic and Cumberland Counties.
Thank you for your past responsiveness to the needs of our region, I ask that you once again call a State of Emergency so that our residents can receive much needed relief to deal with the flooding. Thank you for your consideration to this request.
