PETERSBURG – During public comment at the Feb. 25 Upper Township Committee meeting, Ralph Cooper, of Seaville, said, “I’ve asked before and would like to know now if it is possible to not have committee meetings and school board meetings held at the same time and evening?
“I’ve just come from the school board meeting next door and heard some disturbing news and it would be good to have as many residents as possible attend each of these important meetings. The news from the school board is that they’re projecting a $ 3.9-million deficit over the next few years which will mean a 19-cent increase in the tax rate.”
Mayor Richard Palombo replied, “We’re getting many of these municipal meetings, including our committee meetings, videoed and on our website (uppertownship.com). Regarding the school deficit, I’ve heard that it’s related to the overall state cut in funding and there’s to be a meeting or rally held in Trenton soon. There are also cap-spend implications regarding this issue and I also have an unsettled feeling about the situation.”
