PETERSBURG – Committee member Kim Hayes briefed the public and her fellow committee members at their Aug. 22 meeting about continuing vandalism that plagues the township.
“Incidents are increasing now at sports events, especially varsity games where older teens congregate, Hayes said.
“We’ve informed state troopers who have been very helpful in managing these situations. We continue to try to find ways and seek funding to occupy these young people who might not be interested in sports and so have time on their hands and are using it in destructive ways,” Hayes continued.
According to numerous posts on local social media, ongoing vandalism and graffiti are rampant at playgrounds and most recently, at Beesley’s Point State Park. This includes deliberate destruction of equipment such as fences and rails. Some residents have recently posted that they don’t even feel safe using the pedestrian and biking trail. Groups of juveniles reportedly congregate on the path.
