Tourism’s Up

By Camille Sailer

SEA ISLE CITY – During Sea Isle City’s Council meeting Sept. 10, George Savastano, business administrator, reported that beach tag sales for the 2019 season were robust.
Total sales were $1.4 million, an increase of $14,000 over 2018.
Beach tag sales indicate decent beach weather. Summer 2019 was hot and mostly dry, with the majority of weekends clear and sunny.
County tourism officials are also reporting a banner year, noting that the overall county tourism industry hasn’t had this much business in years.
Municipalities and businesses are reporting parking lot revenue, meter revenue, occupancy tax, restaurant revenue, and accommodation revenue have all trended up. Cape May County ranks second in the state tourism spending behind Atlantic County.
