Tolls to Increase on A.C. Expressway Nov. 18

By Herald Staff

ATLANTIC CITY — The South Jersey Transportation Authority will implement a toll increase and tourism discount on the Atlantic City Expressway on Tuesday, Nov.18 at 12:01 a.m.
Toll rates will increase on all of the expressway’s ramps and toll plazas. All ramps that are currently 25 cents will increase to 40 cents; all 50 cents ramps will increase to 75 cents; automobile toll rates at Egg Harbor will increase from $2 to $3 and Pleasantville toll plaza will increase from 50 cents to 75 cents.
The estimated $205 million generated from the toll increase will fund regional transportation projects including: widening the Expressway between the Garden State Parkway and Route 73; Berlin-Cross Keys Bridge widening; other bridge and roadway improvements; and Atlantic City International Airport improvement projects.
At the same time, a Tourism Discount will be put into place. A 25 percent toll rate reduction will be offered for E-Z Pass users traveling eastbound through Pleasantville and Egg Harbor Toll Plazas from now until May 2009 on Friday and Saturday evenings between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The discount is intended to promote tourism in the Atlantic County region, as well as urge travelers to take advantage of the ease and convenience of E-ZPass, and new E-ZPass-On-The-Go Tags.
The Frequent User Plan will continue. To qualify users must be a New Jersey E-ZPass tag holder.
Use the E-ZPass tag at least 30 times during a 35 day period and the discount will be applied for the next 35 days. Keep using it, and the discount will continue. Users must sign up for the Expressway program either when they enroll, or by calling the customer service center at 1-888-288-6865.
E-ZPass-On-The-Go-Tags are available at the Frank S. Farley Service Plaza (milepost 21.3) and the Atlantic City Visitors Center (milepost 3.0) on the Atlantic City Expressway.
E-Z Pass is also accepted at most SJTA automated parking facilities.
