Thornton: Get AC Rail Line Running

CREST HAVEN – News reports suggest it may not be until the end of January at the earliest that rail service will be returned by New Jersey Transit to the Atlantic City Rail Line.
According to a release, Cape May County Freeholder Director Gerald Thornton is joining those who are questioning why the service has not been returned.
NJ Transit official stated they had to shut down the line to do work on Positive Train Control (PTC), which needed to be completed by the end of the calendar year.
It was recently announced that the work was completed on the Atlantic City Rail Line, but no firm date was set for the train line to run to service.
“While this train line does not enter Cape May County, many of our residents use the service to go to Philadelphia or other destinations,” stated Thornton. “They promised to have the service returned when the PTC was finished but there is still no hard date for its return.”
The Cape May County Freeholder board had previously supported a resolution, which was in opposition to the train line shut down. Other lines in the state needed the same work to be done but they all didn’t have to be shut down.
“This is unfair treatment that South Jersey is receiving,” stated Thornton. “We hope the governor and the Legislature look into what is going on with NJ Transit.”
