Suspect Charged in Ocean City Boat Theft

OCEAN CITY – On Nov. 2, 2011 at 5:10 p.m., the Ocean City Police Department responded to a boat theft that had just occurred in the 300 block of Bay Avenue. It was reported that a former employee of the company had taken a 58 foot, Paddle Wheel Boat the Crystal Queen, and was traveling northbound in the intercoastal waterway toward the Longport Bridge.
Assistance was immediately requested from the New Jersey State Marine Police, Longport Police Department and the United States Coast Guard. The assisting agencies were able to locate the boat near the 22nd Street Beach off the coast of Longport, NJ. The boat was then boarded by the assisting agencies and the suspect was taken into custody.
The New Jersey State Police charged the suspect based on his operation of the vessel. The suspect was then turned over to the Ocean City Police Department for further investigation into the theft of the boat.
The suspect, John Sullivan, age 32, was charged with theft on an arrest warrant. Bail was set at $50,000.00 full cash. Sullivan was transported to the Cape May County Correctional Facility at the completion of the investigation.
