PETERSBURG – Upper Township Engineer Paul Dietrich discussed the worsening beach erosion at the south end of Strathmere at the Nov. 5 Township Committee meeting. “We’ll need to start looking at ‘back-passing’ of sand and pay for it under an emergency declaration to expend these funds. The situation is getting worse each week. Ironically the nearby inlet there and Corson’s Inlet State Park where the beach was almost lost in 2008 is better than it ever was.” Mayor Richard Palombo said, “I am very concerned that with any new nor’easter or other storms the drop-off at the south end of Strathmere is becoming very dangerous.”
Palombo asked Dietrich to develop a plan, add signage warning about the steep drop off as necessary and get quotes for sand fill the township plans to undertake.
