STONE HARBOR – Repair work began April 25 on the 96th Street Bridge Priority Structural Repairs construction contract.
Prior to Memorial Day weekend, Agate Construction Company, Inc., general contractor, is permitted to close the bridge to all traffic from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, Sunday night to Thursday night. Between Memorial Day Weekend and June 9, the bridge closures are again from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. the next morning, but are limited to Monday nights through Thursday nights.
The contractor is permitted to close a lane any time from 9 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Friday. The alternating of traffic in the remaining open lane will be controlled by traffic signals. No lane closings or complete closures are permitted after 5 a.m. on Fridays, all day Saturdays and until 9 p.m. on Sundays. The project is to be completed by June 9. If not completed by June 9, the remaining work would be deferred until the fall. When the repair work is completed on the southwest movable girder, the bridge will once again be able to carry legal loads and the current weight restriction on the bridge will be removed.
