STONE HARBOR – Stone Harbor Borough Council Oct. 15 heard capital budget projections for almost $6 million over five years for beach replenishment, back bay dredging, and flood mitigation efforts.
The $5.7 million budget projection represents the total in funds scheduled to be put aside over the next five budget cycles to deal with the recurring, expensive projects aimed at open bay channels, protected beaches, and better flood mitigation infrastructure.
The actual costs associated with those areas are not yet known, but the inevitability of the expense is certain. The build-up of a fund to help defray those expected costs is part of the borough’s financial plan.   The draft budget presented calls for growing the annual allocation to such a fund to $1.3 million a year by 2022.
