Still Monitoring Diocesan Senior Housing

By Al Campbell

CREST HAVEN — Officials from the Diocese of Camden and Freeholder Kristine Gabor continue to work on issues relating to Haven House in North Cape May on Townbank Road, and Victorian Towers in Cape May.
Gabor reported to freeholder peers Thur., Aug. 23 that the county and engineer had been working with her to rectify problems relating to those senior citizens’ apartments. Those included an inspection by the state Department of Community Affairs.
After that inspection, Gabor said there were “issues that were lacking, specifically the mold issue in Victorian Towers.” She vowed to “stay on top of that.”
She urged that any senior citizens who live in multi-unit housing units, who cannot get satisfaction for life-safety matters, should contact her at the County Administration Building.
Director Gerald Thornton said he was “impressed” by what Gabor had accomplished with the state Department of Community Affairs.
Gabor also spoke of a “road show” that would begin at Haven House and Victorian Towers the first week in September to take county services directly to those apartments where some residents may not have transportation to get to county offices.
Personnel from the county Department of Aging and Disabilities Services will explain the services available to senior residents.
Aim of the action is to enable seniors to remain in independent living as long as possible.
After those initial visits, that “road show” will move to other senior citizen apartments elsewhere in the county.
