PETERSBURG – Upper Township Committee and Mayor Richard Palombo discussed the issue of traffic and pedestrian safety at various intersections of Route 50, especially at Schoolhouse Lane in Tuckahoe May 13. The safety situation at that busy crossroads has been one of concern for many months for Palombo and committee. Township Engineer Paul Dietrich explained that at the urgings of Tuckahoe residents, committee requested the state Department of Transportation (NJDOT) look into pedestrian signage and possibly a flashing pedestrian light. “NJDOT responded that the township must cost share 25 percent of the $100,000 cost of the flashing lights when installed,” he said. Committee agreed to pay the local cost share if the project is approved.
