Sick Leave Injury (SLI) Legislation Is Closer to Being Codified into Law

By Press Release

TRENTON – PBA Local 105 praised the Legislature’s final approval of S-596/A-3422. In 90 days, PBA Local 105 members will receive full salary and benefits after suffering a “serious bodily injury” for six months of recovery.
PBA Local 105 President Brian Renshaw stated, “Members of Local 105 have waited almost eight years for this day. When the bill is enacted, state corrections officers will receive the benefits in 90 days that will help our members heal and take care of their families. In the near future, we plan to revisit and expand these SLI provisions – our work is far from complete.”
PBA Local 105 leadership is appreciative of the bipartisanship that made the passage of S-596/A-3422 possible and the Governor’s willingness to make the current language work for our members and the taxpayers. At this juncture, we urge Assembly leadership to post the Governor’s recommendations on June 8 so that the 90-day clock can start. The sooner state corrections, juvenile justice and state parole officers and their families can begin receiving full salary and benefits while on recovery leave – the better.
The Senate adopted the Governor’s recommendation by a vote of 38-0.
