SEA ISLE CITY – The alternative route program in New Jersey is a process that allows individuals interested in a law enforcement career to gain the required training at an approved police training facility at their own expense in the hopes of bettering their opportunity to pursue employment as a certified police officer.

Graduates have three years to gain employment in law enforcement without having to be retrained. The program allows the recruit to be pre-trained and ready for work. The program is an alternative to the established and often longer civil service route.

In 2022, the requirements for the program were revised. At its April 25 meeting, Sea Isle City Council reaffirmed its participation in the program by incorporating the revised requirements.
