SEA ISLE CITY– Each year, the Sea Isle City Beach Patrol hosts a Junior Lifeguard Program that nurtures young athletes who hope to be lifeguards in Sea Isle City. The annual program, which is open to male and female applicants (age 14-17), is currently being held each Tuesday and Thursday morning through August 12 in front of the beach patrol’s new headquarters on 44th Street. Selected junior guards also participate in an afternoon rowing clinic. Enrollment is limited to 40 applicants each year.
The purpose of the program is to introduce basic lifesaving skills and rescue techniques as an educational and physical training foundation for prospective beach patrol employees. Beach patrol instructors apply the principals of surf-bashing, swimming, running, paddling and ocean rowing to techniques of water rescue appropriate to the age and skill level of the participants. Junior Lifeguards developing through this program, who are sixteen years of age or older, may be accepted for employment with the SICBP upon graduating later this summer.
